Why We’re here

2025 County Convention meeting for Pickens County Democratic Party

The Pickens County Democratic Party

No matter our race, background, income, gender, or zip code — we all want similar things: a good life for our families, the freedom to make our own decisions, and a community where everyone has a fair shot.

For too long, Pickens County has been run by politicians who don’t care about us. They’ve ignored working families, underfunded our schools and libraries, neglected our roads, and used fear and division to hold onto power — while our communities fall further behind.

They’ve allowed wages to stay low while housing costs rise beyond reach for too many families, making it harder to build a secure future here.

Meanwhile, too many county leaders have chosen to divide us with culture war distractions — using fear, division, and attacks on our neighbors instead of investing in the things that really matter: our families, our futures, and our community.

We’re done with that. We’re here to take our county back — not with anger, but with courage and hope.

We’re here because working people in Pickens County — Black, white, and brown; rural and urban; young and old — deserve leaders who fight for us, not just the powerful few.

What we believe

We believe in:

  • Thriving public schools for every child, no matter their neighborhood or background.

  • Good jobs and fair wages so working people — whether in healthcare, education, trades, or retail — can support their families.

  • Healthcare that’s affordable and accessible, not a luxury for the wealthy.

  • Freedom from political interference in personal decisions about our bodies, families, and futures.

  • Respect and safety for every person — regardless of race, gender, religion, or who they love.

What We Do

We organize with neighbors who refuse to be invisible.

We stand with working people fighting to be heard.

We lift up young people demanding a future here, not somewhere else.

We unite Black, white, and brown families to build power together — because division is their tool, and unity is ours.

We show up — on doorsteps, at school boards, in our communities — because power is built by people, not politicians.

We’re not here to defend the status quo. We’re here to fight for the people who make Pickens County what it is — and who are ready to make it even better.
